About Dagviti

Dagviti is a simple overview of Iceland's holidays and notable days: statutory public holidays, official flag days, the seasonal days of the Old Icelandic calendar and other days worth remembering. The site shows when each day falls, why it is celebrated and when it comes around next.

Dagviti is an old and rare Icelandic word for a calendar - specifically a perpetual date indicator showing the month, date and weekday, usable year after year. It can also be read as day beacon - hence our mark. There is no algorithm and no advertising, just the days in order, as a list or a calendar.

The data

Movable days are computed by the same rules the almanacs use: Easter by the church calendar, the First Day of Summer as the first Thursday after 18 April, Husband's Day as the start of Þorri, and so on. Spotted a mistake? Let us know at hallo@dagviti.is.
