Culture Night (Menningarnótt) is Iceland's biggest city festival, held in Reykjavík on the Saturday on or right after 18 August - the city's birthday (founded 1786). Since 1996 the centre fills with concerts, exhibitions and happenings late into the evening, capped with fireworks over the harbour. The Reykjavík Marathon is run the same morning. The exact date is confirmed by the city each year.
